Spanish Immersion Jamaica Plain & Brookline began in 2006. Giovanna Tapia, the founder and director, designed the program as part of a school assignment while she was getting her masters. The assignment was to design a project that combined community, economics, and development. Spanish Immersion began as a response of the need for seniors to be active in the community.
After more than 13 years running, the program has become more than just conversations between learners and Latin American Seniors. It is a place to learn about a new culture, practice a language and create friendships.

The mission of Spanish Immersion is to improve the quality of life of Spanish-speaking seniors and to bridge them with non-Spanish speaking community members. At the same time, Spanish Immersion seeks to enrich the lives of all people living in the greater Boston area by increasing the community’s understanding of Spanish language and culture and ultimately by celebrating diversity.
